Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer is an illness that touches many families and friends, mine included with two very close friends being diagnosed and treated this year. October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, promoting early detection, and supporting those affected by breast cancer. For women in the UK, this month is a powerful reminder to prioritise breast health and take steps to protect yourself and your loved ones.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the UK, with about 1 in 7 women diagnosed during their lifetime, according to The Pink Ribbon Foundation. However, early detection through regular screenings and self-exams can significantly improve outcomes. Dr. Philippa Kaye, a GP and women’s health expert, emphasizes, “Regular breast screenings are crucial, particularly for women over 40, but all women should know how to check themselves and report any changes to their GP.”

This year, Breast Cancer Awareness Day falls on October 18th, and we at Truly have teamed up with The Pink Ribbon Foundation donating 5% of all full price sales on that day to their charity.  It’s a perfect opportunity to participate in fundraisers like the wear it Pink campaign or organise community events to raise awareness. Many brands and organisations also offer special products or services during October, and so please do make a donation if you feel inclined to, or even better shop here to start your Christmas shopping early and we will make the donation for you.

For women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s, developing a habit of self-examination is critical. Get familiar with the normal look and feel of your breasts so you can spot any unusual changes like lumps, swelling, or skin dimpling. While not all changes mean cancer, it's always best to consult your doctor if anything seems off.
Take this Breast Cancer Awareness Month as a call to action—not just for yourself but for the women around you. Whether it’s booking your first mammogram, donating to research, or simply sharing vital information with friends and family, every effort counts in the fight against breast cancer.
