Spring Equinox: 20th March 2025

New Beginnings and Spring Cleaning

The Spring Equinox unofficially marks the beginning of the Spring Season, and historically the beginning of a new year too. Nowadays of course, we ring in the new year in the chilly depths of Winter, where, let’s be honest, most of us are not feeling too inspired; a glance out of the window at the groggy skies of January is enough to extinguish the resolutions we named at the end of December. We set ourselves intentions in good faith, but come February, the motivation is beginning wane. Traditionally, the new year began on the first full moon after the March equinox in the Babylonian calendar, so let’s take a leaf out of their book! Let’s give ourselves a second chance at a new year and look at the coming 12 months ahead through new eyes this March.

Setting intentions for the year ahead in Spring may feel foreign, but give it a go – you may feel more inclined to continue on with them at this time of year. It is the season of rebirth; flowers are beginning to bloom, livestock are welcoming their young into the world, and the trees that had sunk into a brittle slumber are finally regaining their leafy, softened edges. Plant those seeds of growth in yourself and in your garden. We are much more likely to persevere in our resolutions when the growth we wish to see in ourselves is reflected in the world around us.

There is no better reset than a Spring clean; throw out old clothes, adorn your bed with fresh, new linens, and fill the kitchen with seasonal produce: think leafy greens, wild garlic, and perhaps a cluster of Daffodils in our Smoked Sage Ellipse Vase. Spring cleaning can be metaphorical as well as physical; release those stagnant feelings that have lingered on from Winter, and create a clear, fresh reality for yourself. Light a candle while you clear your space and mind, and at the end of it all, settle in with a glass of something luxurious and some equally luxurious pyjamas. Welcome some quiet and calm, and allow yourself to think of the months to come as a time of growth and progress.

‘A fresh start’ is an apt phrase at this time of year. Spring brings a ‘fresh’ everything in the natural world, so why not replicate this ‘fresh’ feeling in your home too? Adding a set of bedding to your linen cupboard may seem little, but it in fact reinforces a sense of newness; akin to when buying a new notebook and determining its future contents – it symbolises a fresh start

Let’s embrace this time as one of transformation, new beginnings, and growth as we embark on the journey towards lingering warm evenings and relaxing in the sun. A time to let go of the things holding us back, and start the year afresh.
